Managing Pediatric Special Needs Care in Private Practice

Andrew Fraser, DMD is the clinical director of orthodontics for Bubble Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics, a private practice in Newton, Massachusetts. Upon graduation from Penn Dental Medicine, Dr. Fraser served as chief resident during his orthodontic residency at UCLA. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field of orthodontics by the dental community and has authored numerous articles, one of which was selected as required reading for the American Board of Orthodontics exam. Dr. Fraser regularly lectures on dental care for families with children on the spectrum and is a featured speaker for several non-profits in Massachusetts including the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation, the Arc of Massachusetts, and the Alliance of MetroWest. Recently, Dr. Fraser was selected by the Massachusetts Dental Society as one of the top ten dental providers under ten years in practice in the state. In addition, Dr. Fraser is currently a member of the Penn Dental Medicine Alumni Society Executive Council.

Course Description
In a busy private practice setting, integration of patients who may require more attention may prove difficult if the practitioner and associated staff are not adequately prepared. In this presentation, we will review the steps on how one office was designed for treating special needs children via staff education and empowerment, scheduling considerations, and office set-up.
Educational Objectives
Achieve a better understanding of providing an appropriate level of care for special needs children, targeting staff training for working with special needs patients, and improving patient intake via customized medical history forms and practice design.
