Innovative Management of Periodontal and Implant Conditions with Laser Technology

Samuel B. Low, DDS, MS, M.Ed Professor Emeritus, University of Florida, College of Dentistry; Advisor Member of the Pankey Institute. He is past President of the American Academy of Periodontology and a current officer of the Academy of Laser Dentistry. Dr. Low provides periodontists, dentists and dental hygienists with the tools for successfully managing the periodontal patient. He was selected “Dentist of the Year” by the Florida Dental Association, Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Texas Dental School, and the Gordon Christensen Lecturer Recognition Award. He is a Past President of the Florida Dental Association and past ADA Trustee.

Course Description
Today’s clinician requires technology to enhance procedural results in a variety of both hard and soft tissue environments. The dental laser is uniquely able to remove < 5 cell layers at a time while its penetration allows concurrent bleeding control and microbial decontamination in a non-surgical/surgical environment.
Educational Objectives
- Role of lasers in the dental hygiene operatory
- Closed flap periodontal procedures: Develop in a stepwise fashion a comprehensive closed flap laser periodontal procedure resulting in decreased pocket depth and minimal recession
- Consider a stepwise procedural approach to utilizing various soft and hard tissue lasers in esthetic crown lengthening surgery.
- Implant 2nd stage recovery with gingival manipulation to enhance the emergence profile
- Management of implant peri mucositis
- Considerations for treating peri implantitis with laser curettage and implant decontamination
- Considerations of low level laser therapy for enhanced wound healing
- Maximize the benefit of laser post operative patient positive related outcomes for marketing
