Scholarly Profiles on the Web to Track and Promote

Dr. Manuel de la Cruz Gutiérrez is based in the Biotech Commons. Manuel's work centers on liaising with research communities, forging and strengthening relationships with research cores and other campus partners, and spearheading new and innovative services. He also serves as the Libraries' Liaison to the Biomedical Graduate Studies program at the Perelman School of Medicine. He has a B.S. in Physics from the Universidad de Guadalajara, a Ph.D. in Optics from the University of Rochester (via a Fulbright scholarship), and he did post-doctoral training in neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston. Manuel earned his Master's degree in Library Science from Texas Woman's University and worked as a science librarian at University of Houston before coming to the University of Pennsylvania.

Course Description
In this lecture the speaker will present on how to use different academic profiles and associated networks to track and promote your work. The speaker will discuss the following academic profile platforms: ORCiD, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus, Dimensions, ResearchGate, Academia.edu
Educational Objectives
- Learn the features of the most common academic profile platforms.
- Understand how your work is being tracked by these platform and how you may gain (at least some) control over the content.
- Learn how to create or access your profiles, as well as how to effectively curate them.
- Inform your decision on which profiles to curate, and which ones at least to track.
