Access to Care and Behaviour Management of a Non-healing Oral Lesion in an Elderly Patient - Case Presentation

Natalia Trehan, DMD, Class of 2022 is currently an Oral Medicine Resident at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Trehan graduated from the Medical University of Łódź, Poland in June 2022. She has acquired diverse experience working in the summers during her dental school years in Malta, Toronto, India and USA. Throughout her dental school, Natalia volunteered in the Oral and Maxillofacial department. Natalia is also a Health Care Ambassador with a non profit organization - Take a Pain Check that empowers youth with chronic illnesses to advocate for themselves. She is passionate about oncology and advocating for improving healthcare literacy and access to care. Natalia plans to pursue a clinical and academic career in diagnosis and surgery.

Course Description
This presentation will focus on access to care, as well as behavioural management of an elderly patient, in the setting of squamous cell carcinoma.
Educational Objectives
- To understand and empathize with the challenges faced by our elderly patients when attempting to access proper healthcare.
- To be able to assess and identify compulsive behaviors by patients, and learn how to modify these behaviors.
