Granulomatous Disease in Veterinary Oral Medicine

Dr. Jamie G. Anderson is a U.C. Davis graduate, having received a BS in Animal Science, her DVM degree and a Masters degree in Comparative Pathology. She received a BS degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. This background helped to spark her interest in veterinary dentistry. Her specialty training was performed at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship and back-to-back residency programs in Dentistry and Small Animal Internal Medicine and is board certified in both specialties. Dr. Anderson is currently focused on clinical research in oral medicine, and in particular canine ulcerative stomatitis and mucosal diseases. Unraveling the immunologic basis of these particular diseases and evaluating the potential for animal models of human disease is a current research focus.

Course Description
A brief review of granulomatous disease in veterinary oral medicine, including pathogenesis, will be provided. Then several cases of mucosal granulomatous disease will be presented including the chief complaint, pertinent past-history, oral examination, radiographic evaluation/CBCT, diagnostic evaluation, histopathologic description, differential diagnoses, and management strategies.
Educational Objectives
- Participants will be able to describe the granulomatous lesion, develop a list of differential diagnoses, briefly describe the pathogenesis of granulomatous lesions, pick out the key words in a histopathology report that suggest granulomatous disease, prioritize diagnostics, and discuss treatment options.
