Dr. Hong is a tenured, full professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Community Oral Health at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry. He received first DDS degree from West China University of Medical Sciences and then from the University of Tennessee. In addition, Dr. Hong received advanced specialty training in Dental Public Health and Operative Dentistry and a PhD focusing on Oral Epidemiology all from the University of Iowa. Dr. Hong started his academic dentistry career since 2005. His passion has been on oral health promotion and disease prevention. His research focuses on dental caries risk assessment, diagnosis, and prevention, in particular the use of fluoride in dentistry.

Course Description
This lecture will discuss caries risk assessment and sources of fluoride intake, mechanisms of fluoride action, different fluoride oral health products. The lecture will provide evidence-based use of fluoride for the patients to maximize the benefit and minimize the risk of fluoride use.
