Mobile, Special Care Dentistry - 24 Years of Success

Betsy Lee White, RDH, BS, FSCDH, completed her degree in dental hygiene at Guilford Technical Community College in 1995 and her B.S. studies at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1997. She holds a Fellowship in Special Care Dental Hygiene from the Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA). Her commitment to special care populations has been the center of her entire career. In 1994, Betsy joined Dr. Bill Milner in his part-time practice and together, they created Access Dental Care (ADC). ADC has grown over twenty-plus years and is now serving over 190 skilled nursing facilities, group homes for those with IDD, PACE programs, a regional HIV/AIDS program, and a community program for older adults.
Betsy has been awarded the Sarah Bradshaw Award and the Holly Riddle Distinguished Service Award. She served as President of Special Care Advocates in Dentistry in 2016-2017. She is currently serving on the NCIOM Medicaid Payment Transformation Committee and SCDA’s Taskforce on Payment Reform.

Course Description
Founded in 2000, Access Dental Care, a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing comprehensive, on-site dental services to residents in skilled nursing homes, group homes for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Programs for All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE), community-based patients with special needs, a regional program supporting patients with HIV/AIDS and a county serving low-income elders in the community. We started with twelve facilities, a full-time dentist and hygienist and a part-time assistant. Now we have thirty-three full-time professionals operating five mobile programs serving over one hundred fifty facilities. This course will provide insight into both starting and maintaining a mobile dental practice.
