Patient Perspective - Lived Experience

Jenny Feldman is the Founder of Oh My Jaw, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit raising awareness for Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJ/D). A Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA) and lived experience expert, she holds advanced degrees in Public Health Communication (MS), Intellectual Property Law (JD), and Advertising (BA). For nearly three decades, Jenny has championed TMJ advocacy, organizing fundraisers, mentoring programs, and support networks for patients.
She testified at the FDA, presented at the National Academy of Medicine, and leads efforts to improve TMJ care. Having undergone dozens of surgeries, Jenny’s personal experience fuels her mission to inspire change. As administrator of a global TMJ support group, she empowers patients and promotes better access to quality care.

Course Description
Explore challenges faced by TMJ patients and strategies to address them effectively. 1. Identifying the Right Provider – Learn how to navigate the complex landscape of medical and dental professionals to find qualified providers for TMJ care. 2. Addressing Insurance Coverage Gaps – Understand the systemic issues preventing adequate coverage for TMJ treatments and explore advocacy efforts to bridge these gaps. 3. Understanding Overlapping Conditions – Recognize the interconnectedness of TMJ disorders with other chronic conditions and the importance of comprehensive, multidisciplinary care. 4. Breaking Free from Misinformation Echo Chambers – Examine how misinformation spreads within patient communities and ways to promote accurate, evidence-based knowledge. 5. Improving Health Literacy and Overcoming Cultural Barriers – Discover strategies to enhance health literacy and address cultural and linguistic barriers to ensure equitable access to TMJ care.
