Brian Ford, DMD, MD, is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and an Assistant Professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He practices at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. After receiving both his dental and medical degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, he went on to complete his surgical residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.) and is regularly invited to give lectures on both the local and national level. Dr. Ford’s area of expertise includes dental implants, complex bone grafting, and anesthesia.

Allan Shaw, DDS, has served as Chairman of the Department of Dental Medicine and Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia. He spent six years as an examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Shaw has been recognized with the Awards of Merit by both the General Alumni Society and the Dental Alumni Society of the University of Pennsylvania. He currently conducts a private practice and teaches oral surgical residents and students at Penn Dental Medicine.
Steven Wang, DMD, MD, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and an Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He is also the Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program. He practices at the hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and the Penn Dental Family Practice. Dr. Wang received both his dental and medical degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his surgical residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Wang’s areas of expertise and passion include orthognathic surgery, pathology and reconstruction, exodontia, dental implants, and bone grafting.

Course Description
This blended AAOMS-approved equivalency course provides oral and maxillofacial surgeons with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for safe and effective airway management in the office-based environment.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the airway and apply this knowledge to patient management.
2. Identify high-risk patient populations and implement appropriate airway management strategies.
3. Interpret patient monitoring data, including EKG and capnography, to recognize early signs of airway compromise.
4. Demonstrate proficiency in maintaining an open airway and performing BVM ventilation.
5. Select and effectively use adjunctive airway devices in a simulated clinical setting.
6. Recognize, prevent, and manage laryngospasm and other airway emergencies.
7. Integrate the OMS airway algorithm and a team-based approach to improve safety in office-based anesthesia.
