Kim Perry, DDS, MSCS, FACD, is a dental professional and academic leader. She is an associate professor and chief partnership officer at A.T. Still University. Previously, she held leadership roles at ATSU-Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health, Meharry College of Dentistry, and Texas A&M College of Dentistry (Baylor College of Dentistry). Dr. Perry's research focuses on health disparities, untreated dental caries, health policy, and community-participatory research. She is a University of North Carolina School of Dentistry graduate and a U.S. Army Dental Corps veteran. She has served on numerous boards and committees. Dr. Perry is a dedicated mentor and advocate for improving oral health, particularly in underserved communities, and a contributor to Oral Health in America.
Deepika Dhama, DDS, iis a multi-practice owner and industry thought leader with over 25 years of experience in comprehensive, patient-centered dentistry. Passionate about bridging the gap between oral and systemic health, she pioneered a Dental-Medical Integration (DMI) model that improves patient outcomes through collaboration between dental and medical professionals. Dr. Dhama lectures nationally and internationally on the Mouth-Body Connection®, technology integration, and preventive care. A dedicated mentor, she trains dentists in clinical excellence, leadership, and patient education. Her mission is to redefine dentistry as a vital part of whole-body wellness—empowering patients through knowledge, prevention, and innovation.

Charles Mouton, MD, MS, MBA, is the Vice President and Executive Dean of the John Sealy School of Medicine and Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine. He formerly served as President ad interim, Executive Vice President, Provost, and Dean of the John Sealy School of Medicine.
Dr. Mouton also served as Senior Vice President for Health Affairs, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Meharry Medical College. He received his M.D. degree from Howard University College of Medicine, a Master of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Tennessee Technological University.
He is board certified in Family Medicine and Geriatrics.
Janet Southerland, DDS, MPH, PhD, received her undergraduate, residency, and graduate training at UNC Chapel Hill. She is Tenured Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Previous experience include Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer at LSU Health Sciences Center and Institutional Research Officer and Interim Dean of School of Dentistry, Vice President for Interprofessional Education, Institutional Effectiveness, and the Health Education Center at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston Texas (UTMB), Dean of Meharry School of Dentistry, Chair of Hospital Dentistry, Chief of Oral Medicine, and Director of the Hospital Dental Clinic at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.

Course Description
This is Session 3 of a four-part webinar series, “Oral Health in Transition: Charting a Collaborative Path Forward” presented by the National Coalition of Dentists for Health Equity and Penn Dental Medicine. Session 3 will will review the link between oral and systemic health and describe how Dental-Medical Integration (DMI) can transform patient treatment outcomes and community wellness. Through examples of currently functioning DMI clinical practice models, they will demonstrate how collaboration between dental, medical, and community providers enhances early disease detection and coordinated patient care. Strategies to implement chairside medical and dental screenings will be presented.
Educational Objectives
- Describe the connection between oral and systemic health and explain how oral inflammation contributes to systemic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
- Describe how DMI improves diagnosis, coordinates patient care and improves health equity.
- Implement strategies for integrating medical screenings and patient education into chair side dental care settings.
