Alejandro Almarza, PhD, is a faculty member in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, with a secondary appointment in Bioengineering. His research focuses on temporomandibular joint disorders, integrating clinically relevant animal models, pain mechanisms, and regenerative strategies to better understand joint degeneration and dysfunction. Dr. Almarza leads and contributes to NIH-funded, multi-institutional collaborations aimed at bridging basic science and clinical care, with an emphasis on translational outcomes, interdisciplinary training, and improving diagnosis and treatment of TMJ-related pain.
