Theofilos Koutouzis DDS, MS, earned his Certificate and Master’s degree in Periodontics from Gothenburg University, Sweden and from the University of Florida, College of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr Koutouzis is Associate Professor at the Department of Periodontology and Director of Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontology at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has published research on periodontal disease management and dental implant dentistry.

Course Description
Atrophy of alveolar ridges following tooth extraction is a common fact and can severely compromise the esthetic and functional rehabilitation of patients. Numerous options of biomaterials and surgical techniques for alveolar ridge management can be overwhelming for the clinician and can lead to improper clinical management. This course is developed to review critical concepts in alveolar ridge management.

- Understand benefits, rationale and limitations of immediate implant placement
- Understand benefits, rationale and limitations of alveolar ridge preservation
- Understand how the biologic events during healing of the extraction socket relate to immediate implant placement and ridge preservation concepts
- Understand the factors involved in the decision making for immediate implant placement vs early implant placement vs ridge preservation and delayed implant placement.
- Understand key factors for succesful ridge augmentation procedures
- Understand the effect of abutment macro design on alveolar ridge management
