Esthetic Treatment of Recession Defects: From Natural Teeth to Implants

Roberto Abundo, MD, DDS served as Adjunct Professor in Periodontology at the University of Turin from 1994 to 2005 (Italy) and as Adjunct Professor in Periodontology at the University of Pennsylvania, from 2006 to 2016. He currently is the Scientific Director of the Continuing Education Course in Periodontal Plastic Surgery at Humanitas University in Milan (Italy). Furthermore, he is an active Member of S.I.d.P. (Italian Society of Periodontology) and I.A.O. (Italian Academy of Osseointegration). Dr. Abundo received the H. M. Goldman prize for clinical research in Periodontology from S.I.d.P. in 2000 and of the E.A.O. (European Academy for Osseointegration) prize for clinical research in Implantology in 2010. He is the author of several publications on international peer reviewed journals and two textbooks on periodontal and implant topics. He is also co-author of four chapters in textbook on the same topics. Dr. Abundo serves as Scientific Director of Dentalmedtv, web tv on the world of dentistry and holds a private practice at Sicor in Torino, with practice limited to periodontal and implant surgery.

Course Description
State of the art in root coverage procedures around natural teeth will be illustrated, focusing on indications, surgical techniques and alternative options; then the presentation will move to recession type defects around implants, where scientific data available are still limited, showing possible surgical solutions between art and science.
Educational Objectives
- To select the correct surgical procedure in different clinical conditions of gingival recession around a natural tooth
- To basically learn how to perform such techniques
- To learn how to minimize surgical invasiveness for patients' comfort without any decrease in terms of clinical success
- To learn how to manage soft tissue recessions around a dental implant too.
