Site-Specific Approaches for Treating Gingival Recession Part 2: The Maxilla and Posterior Mandible

Vinay M. Bhide, DDS, MSc(Perio), FRCD(C), is a board certified Periodontist who provides the full scope of surgical periodontal and dental implant therapy. Dr. Bhide has a special interest in esthetic and reconstructive periodontics. Dr. Bhide earned his DDS from the University of Toronto in 2001, and subsequently completed a one-year internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He completed his Master of Science and specialty training in Periodontology at the University of Toronto in 2005.
Dr. Bhide is an Examiner and Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. In addition to private practice, Dr. Bhide is a clinical instructor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Toronto where he is involved in didactic and clinical teaching of periodontics at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. He has lectured nationally and internationally and published on various topics related to periodontics and implantology. In his spare time, Dr. Bhide enjoys spending time with this family, running, playing tennis, and of course, reading anything!

Course Description
This lecture will focus on the remaining areas, i.e the maxilla and posterior mandible. Various surgical approaches for treating gingival recession in these areas will be presented along with a critical evaluation of the pertinent literature.
Educational Objectives
- Discuss different therapeutic modalities for root coverage procedures in the maxilla and posterior mandible.
- Critically evaluate the literature with respect to root coverage procedures in the maxilla and posterior mandible
- To understand the critical factors which can affect the success and predictability of root coverage outcomes in the maxilla and posterior mandible
- Learn about alternatives to autogenous tissue for achieving root coverage in the aforementioned areas.
